"OBSESSED is a word the LAZY use to describe the DEDICATED"
A small glimpse into my world would be confusing for many. My daily life is spent around boats, water and oars; I live in a world very different from most college students. Many people question my motivation, my dedication and more or less, my insanity- as some may see it.
Thousands of collegiate athletes across the world, train just as hard, if not harder, as I do all throughout the year- there are others like me. We form an interesting group of athletes whose lives revolve around teamwork, dedication, and pain. Together, we try to describe our lives and our drive; our sport means the world to us. Rowing is the sun and its athletes are the planets. We are drawn in by a force we can not seem to explain yet we all feel like we have found some place where we belong. I spend the majority of my time up at 5AM, running and erging until I can push my body no further- there are others like me. It is a safe assumption that I live and breathe rowing. If I could spend all of my time rowing, I would. Rowing is a growing sport that attracts new athletes every year and seems to have the same effect on everyone else as it does for me. Our love for this sport has taken over our schools and our teams all over the country; we're all "obsessed." In this sport, I am not alone- there are others like me.

Dedication, drive, and passion are dripping from this post. The centered image at the top of the entry draws focus in and squares away the intent. The background image also puts on excitement; you can practically hear the water rushing and the champions yelling. With a the grey scale in terms of text use, there is a sense of seriousness. The opening quote also sets a tone of strength and dedication. There is interest when the narrator uses the first person, as the reader starts to learn the story. The prose is less poetic than purposeful, and seeks to educate and inform the reader of a day-in-the-life scenario of the narrator. Hyperbolic (or perhaps not so hyperbolic) language is littered throughout, and intensity is more than apparent. A spiritual aspect comes across also when the author uses the metaphor of their sport to the sun and the athletes as planets. The text is not to be taken lightly, which reflects the narrator’s attitude toward their beloved sport.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the language is full of intensity, emotion, and passion, the visual aspect is somewhat lacking. A bold font, mirroring a bold endeavor (to be the best athlete) should be utilized, as well as possibly a more striking color scheme. It is obvious that the narrator’s blood, sweat, and tears go into bettering themselves as a rower daily, and the color should be reflective of that. Possibly fiery red, or even a daring black and yellow contrast would set the tone of strength, perseverance and intensity.
The layout of the photo is a preparation; it shows not action, but care. Taking time to make all the necessary precautions in order to race well and thoroughly. The narrator is preparing the boat, just as the reader prepares for the text. It coordinates quite well with the overall mood and progression of emotion in the narrator.
